Bringing together groups from the arts and heritage sector

Selby District Council is holding a series of events to bring together groups from the arts and heritage sector to hear what the sector needs from the Council in order to do well, to grow and to be resilient for the future - that might include investment, but it might be other things too.

The Council is also interested in hearing opinions about the Economic Development Strategy, which has a number of cultural elements.

There are four sessions:

1.       Festivals & Events (including galas and carnivals) April 25th 10.30am to 12.30pm:

The session will include a short presentation from Wendy Holroyd, who is the Director of Create in Scarborough.  Create deliver Coastival (which you can read about here: http://www.coastival.com/) and they also manage a number of festival partnerships, including North Yorkshire Festivals, Coast Festivals and the Ryedale Festivals group.

2.       Professional visual artists and designer/makers April 25th 2pm to 4pm:

The session will include a short presentation from Stuart Cameron, who is the Director of Crescent Arts in Scarborough.  Crescent Arts is a visual arts development organisation which you can read about here: www.crescentarts.co.uk and Stuart is a curator who has had two exhibitions nominated for the Turner Prize.

3.       Heritage Groups April 27th 10.30am to 12.30pm:

This session will explore heritage projects which you think should be a priority for Selby District Council as well as what you think should happen to highlight the very rich heritage assets in the District.

4.       Community Art Groups April 27th 2pm to 4pm:

The session will include a short presentation from Angela Hall, who is the Director of Rural Arts in Thirsk.  Rural Arts work with community and voluntary groups across the whole of North Yorkshire, they are also funded by the Arts Council to run a rural touring programme (on Tour) and to deliver activity especially for older people.  You can read about them here: https://www.ruralarts.org/.

All events will be at Community House in Selby.  If you feel that you are not the right person to represent your festival, venue, event or organisation/group then please do pass this invitation on.  Please feel free to circulate the invitation through your networks.

In order to enable us to arrange catering please contact Yvette Turnbull or Suzanne Sweeting to let us know if you are able to attend and let us know the name(s) of the people who will be coming:
