Severe Weather Provision

During periods of severe weather in the winter months, Housing Options are offering overnight emergency accommodation for rough sleepers.

For provision of emergency accommodation, the met office forecast must predict that for the next three consecutive nights or more, temperatures are expected to be at a minimum of zero degrees Celsius or lower.

Housing Options have always been reasonably flexible around this definition and will remain so, taking account of the ‘feels like temperature’ which incorporates wind chill.

During their time in temporary accommodation, Housing Options will also try and work with the individual as best we can to try and secure a more settled housing outcome for them.

We also know that many people want to help rough sleepers but don't know the best way to do this. Housing Options are pleased to support StreetLink - a telephone line 0300 500 0914 and website  which will help link someone sleeping on the street with local advice and services.
